Re-membering - A path to Authenticity

Re -Membering…a bringing together of the differing members of our psyche…the different parts, conscious and conscious. A growth process, a movement, a swelling, so to speak, in our individual evolution.

Remembering has always been alive as a concept in the ancient cultures and a thread throughout most philosophical schools of thought.

In ancient Greece there was the titan Goddess Mnemosyne. The mother of the nine muses, she was the Goddess of Memory.

Mnemosyne was the daughter of Gaia the primordial goddess of the Earth and Uranus the God of the sky.

How fascinating that the Greeks felt so deeply about the importance of remembering that they honored a Goddess with these powers. Apparently, Mnemosyne had a mythical river in the underworld and when one who drank from these waters, one would recover their memory.

I don´t know about you, but I yearn sometimes, to retain the memories of beautiful and powerful experiences in my life, with special people and places. Yes, also to remember significant dreams and numinous experiences I have had…. So that they can continue to work and nourish my psyche and enrichen my inner and outer experience of life.

They say that there is a part of us that longs, yes, longs to remember not only experience, but to return to a resonance with our authentic nature. Indeed, I feel that it is an innate part of us that yearns to be in an intimate relationship with existence. For our ancestors interestingly all cultivated relational realities, with ceremony and ritual with the living Earth.

For them, as it is for me, everything is alive.

So, we have many threads here…we have a re-membering, we have a longing for authenticity and we have the connection with the animate world and life.

Finally, I will say, that it is my belief that that there are ancient whispers from the primordial Earth that comes to us through the ethers, if we are open to receiving them …calling us back into a relationship with ourselves and our home, the Earth.

I feel that this way of remembering, is one of the most powerful ways to understand ourselves, not ony for ourselves, but for the future generations, wild beings and humans alike. And it aligns us with the realization of our individual and collective responsibility of how important it is to preserve our home, the Earth.

By remembering who we are and by creating a tangible relationship with all living things, in a place of deep honoring (where we celebrate each living being), we can remember who we are, by virtue of being in relationship in the greater web of life.
